Emerging media is changing not only the way we work as marketers, but is completely shaking up the way we, as humans, communicate. Instead of relying on pen and paper, the United States Postal Service and costly long-distance phone calls, we can now text, chat, email, tweet, video chat, and follow the people and businesses we like. And, if that wasn’t enough, for users, most of it is free!
Here are some facts I found to be quite incredible about the number of users various social media outlets currently have:
– Facebook: 800 million
– Twitter: 200 million
– Google+: 25 million
– Foursquare: 12 million
– AND there are currently 2 BILLION email users!
Additionally, new research just released from Berg Insight predicts that by 2015, 98 billion apps will be downloaded.
Isn’t that incredible? Especially considering that most of these media didn’t even exist a decade ago! And it’s just getting started.
I don’t know about you, but I am definitely ready to learn more about this “emerging” media. It has already impacted my personal life and I’m also seeing a major shift in the way the marketing world does business as a result. It’s going to be a fun ride!
